I was perusing today and came across a blog talking about the latest trends and insights from the craft world (actually, kind of aggrandizing, but nevertheless…) – the article talked about how wood veneer banners are the latest and greatest.So happens, a couple of days ago I came across a few sheets of wood veneer and stored on the back of my mind the need to come up with something to use them…

And voila!

The interesting things is – I’ve had the veneer, the punch and the stamp set for more than a year… lol

Stamping on wood veneer requires Stazon, mind you…

so happens that I also learned a thing or two when photographing clear-embossed images. They shine!!

I used the same stamps to stamp the banners and the background…

and of course, just *had* to add a little heart to brighten the whole monochromatic theme…

I so love this card… it’s simple, the contrast is great, and it delivers the message. Twiterpatted inspired -the chevron on the bottom is so adorable!!

Adding Crystal Effects to the red portion of the flowers makes the contrast even more noticeable – and adds a little reflective surface too.

We all know how hard it is to make manly men cards… sigh… Who has not tried and ended up adding bows and hearts and something intrinsically feminine to it in the end? LOL
I think, though, that when the DSP helps, keeping it simple works. A button is A-OK too. I gave this to an actual live man – and got several compliments!! I confess, it was a first – as far as a man telling me how “manly” the card was! Umm. I will keep it in mind!

I hope the Hop will inspire you to make other manly man cards for those special tough guys in your life!!

Mother’s Day Album

I spent 3 days making this album – manufacturing ALL of it – from the chip board covers to the 12 pages inside, making all of the decorations, including brads, from scratch.

All materials are SU!, some already retired, some retiring now. It’ a long process and a lot of ~~work~~ fun – totally worth it!

I will have the PDF here when I am done (22 pages and still going) – enjoy!

I suppose I like the more modern design approach – don’t do the crowns and the towers and the flourishes… just not me! Let’s say I am more Le Corbusier than Louis V … LOL

soooo… I just HAD to do the basic shapes and the bright complementary colors. This Smooch paper is very very bright…

can you see that the hearts are raised? and so is the blue panel…

Mother’s Day is coming!

I’ve been playing and exploring new ways of using techniques out there – there are only so many one can come up with!! And because I had my 3 flower-silhouette type stamps on the desk, I decided to explore a card style that would allow me to use all 3 of them – this is what I came up with…

3 different earth tones and the illusion of mountains and clouds mounted for the first one…

same scene for the second one, but one layer card this time, ribbon and pearls only..

similar scene for the third one, also a one-layer card, with the addition of a tonal scallop edge.

I really like how soft and paint-like this technique turned out – will continue playing to see what else I can do with it !!
